    Ich habe im Jahr 1990/1991 bei den deutschen Guards in den Pond Barracks gearbeitet. Unsere Einheit war die 4011th Guard Co, Det. Amberg. Ich habe viele gute Erinnerungen an diese Zeit. Jedesmal wenn ich an den Überresten der Pond Barracks vorbei komme muss ich an dese gute alte Zeit denken. In der ehemaligen Mess Hall ist heute ein Restaurant beheimatet in dem meine Frau und ich ab und zu essen. Viele Grüße an alle ehemaligen Trooper die hier gedient haben aus Deutschland. • @stephenpowers51
      @stephenpowers51 29 дней назад

      Responsible? I mean, I can understand why folk would want to pass through, get to Wyoming, Oregon, you know, the pretty states to the west. But Ohio, responsible? I live in Croydon, and the one thing I can safely say about Croydon is, living here gives me one very good reason for leaving here, if only on a daily basis. Too stabby.

      @@stephenpowers51 im talking history and the northwest territory and statehood Thats why. It wouldnt have happened if the territory wasnt opened by people settling in Ohio. It goes with geography and everything because the french had the Louisiana territory and Ohio opening up led to Jefferson purchasing the Louisiana territory which opened up the Oregon area.

    • @stephenpowers51
      @stephenpowers51 28 дней назад

      @@makofett7404 Thanks for that. It may be that some of the people who got as far as Ohio, and then “settled”, then decided to press on further west. And no question Ohio became the de facto jumping off point, the base camp if you will, for those who came in the years that followed from the south and east with the intention of continuing west. So history and geography. Weren’t the British in Oregon around that time, the 1840s? Quite what we were doing there, and how we got there I’ll have to look into. All fascinating stuff.

    I was there from 84 until 93. I Troop, HHT and K Troop. did the Gulf War with K Troop. We kicked ass. And all three of our combat arms were Top Guns in Europe in 91. Tankers, Scouts and Mortars. I guess HOW Bat didnt have that competition. I still live in the Area. June will be forty years. I was the longest serving 3rd Squadron Trooper on the border (Camps May and Reed), plus I was the last soldier to leave Amberg . A dozen of us NCO's who were ETS'ing and PCS'ing were tasked with taking down signs and removing leftover furniture. I had over 80 days leave and needed to use it or lose it. When I returned after a month of vacation, everyone else was gone. There was a letter for me at the main gate where the German Guards were, that told me to, "Officially", turn over the keys to them, even though they already had them. Afterwards I was ordered to report to the 100th ASG in Graf where I went to work for my old K Troop First Sergeant, CSM Anderson in PAC before I ETS'ed I could tell you guys some stories. Its been a helluva a ride

    • @leedavid8061
      @leedavid8061 6 месяцев назад

      BTW, before all the renovation, Amberg wrestled with what to do with the kasserne. In the end, they paid the US Army somewhere in the neighborhood of 19 million d-marks. Due to all the stuff we left behind that still had value, Like the new Motor pool and Motor Bays with brand new overhead crane. Anyway, there was a time when the area was fenced in and served as a refugee asylum camp for Hutus and Tutsis , and at another time, Bosnians and Serbs. I remember reading about a knife attack sometime afterwards, don't remember who, and the post remained vacant until developers moved in and started turning everything into homes, townhomes and apartment buildings. I don't need to stroll down memory lane, I live there, albeit a few miles away, passing by the post and other stomping grounds nearly daily. Tojour Pret Fellow Border Rats

    Thanks for posting this...I know I'm late to the party, but this is great. My Dad was stationed here 1974-1976 and I attended Amberg elementary school 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. Love every minute of this beautiful place. My fondest childhood memories are here. Dad was in the motor pool and I remember Reforger and him going to Graf all the time "out in the field". I often walked from our apartment building to the movie theater on Saturdays and ran to the PX for my mother all the time for this and that. Love it!

    Wow, time does carry on. I was stationed at Amberg in 1974-75. How Btry. Our BC was Capt. Donald Davidson. We actually lived at Vilseck for seven months while How Btry barracks were remodeled for the first time since WWII. At the time, the How Btry barracks was at the far end of the parade ground, by the EM club. It would have been on the far left hand side, as you look into post from the main gate. I remember Lt. Brehm, and Lt. Taylor (who was from San Francisco). Also Lt. Baddley (sp?). Sgt. Henry was my gun chief (M109A1), and Henry's Heroes was the name on the turret. Did REFORGER 74 on the gun crew; was later transferred to FO's section, and spent REFORGER 75 with Sgt. Herring in one of the FO jeeps. Used to like the old "chicken haus" that had the rotisserie chickens going in the front window, and another place (Roma's?) that had great pizza, spaghetti, etc. Long, long time ago...
